Small national charity looking for new Trustee/Treasurer Antenatal Results and Choices (ARC) is looking for a new Treasurer to join our trustees. If you have experience working with a charity, time to help a worthwhile cause and passion about your involvement in projects, then you are the person for us…. ……..
ARC is a national charity that provides non-directive support and information to parents before, during and after prenatal testing. All women in the UK are routinely offered some form of screening during their pregnancy such as blood tests, ultrasound and nuchal fold screening. Every year about 35,000 of these women will be told that there is risk that their unborn baby may have a serious abnormality. This is where ARC comes in. We are there to support parents and their families during a time of great anxiety and uncertainly.
Most parents will ultimately be reassured that the pregnancy is progressing as expected but some will receive the devastating news that their baby has a serious, sometimes fatal, disorder or a condition where the outlook is uncertain.
ARC offers specialised support for as long as is needed during the testing process and when an abnormality is diagnosed. Our aim is to enable parents to make informed decisions during antenatal testing, which are appropriate to their individual circumstances. We offer helpline and email support, and also sustain a network of trained volunteer supporters. We provide a large range of professionally written handbooks for parents and other family members; these are widely used by the NHS
In addition to supporting parents directly, ARC acts as the national voice representing the views of expectant and bereaved parents in Parliament, the media, government bodies and the NHS. We go into the workplace and train midwives and sonographers. In addition, we offer training days to interpreters and hold bi-annual conferences for professionals on antenatal testing and the implications it has for families.
ARC is governed by a board of Trustees that is made up of parent members and professionals, and is supported by a medical advisory body and patrons. Our treasurer is standing down after many years of service and we are looking for a dedicated individual to take her place. The treasurer would be responsible for maintaining an overview of ARC’s financial affairs, ensuring its financial viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. We employ a book–keeper who does our accounts on a regular basis. We are looking for someone with a financial background who is excited about working as part of a team and is passionate about ARC’s work. The time commitment is not big; the reward of seeing a tiny organization achieve so much is huge. Trustees meet six times a year and are required to attend at lest three of those meetings.
If you think you might be the right person for us, please contact Kate Bennett, the Chairman of our trustees on 07860 172 830 or e-mail her at jkbennett@btinternet.com. Further information on the charity can be found on our website www.arc-uk.org.
