The 20th Annual 2020 Conference
The Changing Face Of Accountancy
2020 hosted its 20th Annual Conference at QEII Centre, London on 22nd November 2018.
In a completely over-subscribed conference, accountants heard how tech is having a massive impact on our industry – Artificial Intelligence, BIG data analytics are now a reality and the rise of cloud accounting is the ONLY way forward.
Making Tax Digital is looming and smart firms (typically 2020 firms) have embraced MTD. They recognise the future would be almost impossible without clients operating their accounting on the cloud. The 20th Annual 2020 Conference provided an insight to the vision and key challenges, to prepare delegates to become a successful ‘Firm of the Future’. With over 60 years’ experience dealing exclusively with accountancy firms, Ian Fletcher and Gordon Gilchrist updated firms on the actions they must take to ensure future success and outlined the key changes to address for 2019.
Additional services such as business advisory are accelerating into the accounting profession. As a result, firms are faced with the choice of focusing on compliance services or widening their services to offer business advice in a more systemised way than they have done before. 2020 are leading the profession by providing business advisory guidance and resources via the most comprehensive toolkit ever seen in the UK – the “Business Advisory Hub”.
Justin Urquhart Stewart, one of the most recognisable and trusted market commentators on television, radio and in the press, was the first guest speaker of the day, providing an inspiring session on the economy and BREXIT – more questions than answers though!
The 2020 Innovation ‘Firm of the Year’ award was presented to Paul Miller and Ant Miller of Cornish Accounting Solutions. The ‘Outsourcer of the Year 2018’ award was presented to Arun Ravindranathan and Kehul Patel of Global Infosys.
During the morning Brad Burton presented ‘Now What? Better Decisions Faster!’ Brad shared lessons he had learned from building a hugely successful business from nothing and the peaks and pit-falls that came with it. Brad extolled the virtues of a revived approach being exactly what we need to sharpen our lives, and presented insights into getting the best out of your team.
Debra Searle, a professional adventurer and serial entrepreneur inspired the audience, reflecting on the strategies which she developed to keep her oars in motion, and which she has become reliant on to achieve her business goals to this day.
